POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision is responsible for providing optimal nutritional care to patients, which compiles with the Joint Commission and title 22 regulations and the standards of care in the dietetic profession. Responsible for the medical nutrition therapy of patient/residents; nutritional assessment, nutrition care plans, patient visitation, inpatient/outpatient diet counseling, consults regarding advance nutrition support, as well as assist in other areas related to the Food and Nutrition Services Department

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Completes nutrition assessments, follow-up and education for patients.
Completes medical record documentation.
Updates and maintains policies and procedures for the department in accordance with hospital and Joint Commission Standards.
Collects data for PI indicators and compiles reports.
Participates and maintains quality improvements measures i.e. tray accuracy audits, test trays, meal rounds, pre-service checklist, temperature logs.
Develops appropriate diets for patients.
Reviews and approves menus.
Provides in-service and education to staff.
Participates in nutrition education in the community.
Attends hospital committee meetings.
Completes monthly clinical reports.
Maintains registration status as mandated by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor of Science in Nutrition; Certified as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration 2
Possess a valid V.I. Health Card.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations that apply to the practice of a Clinical Dietician in an inpatient care setting
Knowledge of analytical and grammatical skills necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Ability to work with a wide variety of other professionals and staff engaged in the delivery of health care services.
Ability to gain the confidence and respect of the public to be served.
Ability to work well independently including without administrative support when required.
Organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills are essential.
Ability to work in a highly visible position undergoing significant changes with multiple constituents, each with demands exceeding resources.
Ability to work independently, as part of a team and be available.
Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment with a smoke-free policy. Employee will work in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in hand hygiene practices, Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated; is subject to interruptions and noise daily.
