POSITION SUMMARY

The Dietary Aide performs designated work and cleaning routines for the Dietary Department and is accountable to

the Dietary Manager. In the absence of Dietary Manager, Dietary Aide is accountable to the Cook.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

1.       Prints patient diet sheets from Meditech and update cardex.

2.       Checks breakfast and lunch trayline.

3.       Updates patient cardex throughout the day to reflect new admissions, diet changes, transfers, and discharges.

4.       Completes and records patient census.

5.       Tallies food items from select menus.

6.       Completes and posts cold productions sheets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

7.       Writes out non-select menus for the following day.

8.       Answers phone in diet aid office and check dietary printer for diet changes.

9.       Organizes and maintains inventory of menus for all diets.

10.    Fills in as supervisor as needed.

11.    Participates in department in-services, staff meetings, and safety programs.

12.    Attends or completes mandatory hospital in-services.

13.    Obtains and maintains Food Handler’s Card annually.

14.    Follows department policy and procedures in accordance with hospital and Joint Commission Standards.

15.    Updates patient cardex throughout the day to reflect new admissions, diet changes, transfers, and discharges.

16.    Checks dinner trayline, and provide additional assistance on trayline as needed

17.    Updates patient snacks for the following day.

18.    Complete and posts hot production sheets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

19.    Writes out select menus for distribution at breakfast the following day, as well as menus for new admissions.

20.    Writes out, updates, and prepares tube feeding slips.

21.    Answers phone in diet aid office and check dietary printer for diet changes.

22.    Organizes and maintains inventory of menus for all diets.

23.    Fills in as supervisor as needed.

24.    Participates in department in-services, staff meetings, and safety programs.

25.    Attends or completes mandatory hospital in-services.

26.    Obtains and maintains Food Handler’s Card annually.

27.    Follows department policy and procedures in accordance with hospital and Joint Commission Standards.

28.    Performs other duties assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.       Dietary Aid will be a high school graduate and previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred.  Food handlers card required.

2.       Ability to read, understands and follows recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards, and work assignments.

3.      This position will show a willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.

4.       Numerical ability is necessary for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals, as well as good motor.

5.       Coordination and manual dexterity are required for various work routines such as preparing food items, serving trays and handling soiled dishes, operating dietary equipment and cleaning work area.

6.       The Dietary Aide will be able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during an emergency situation and must be patient and tolerant toward staff, residents, and family members.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

1.       Knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations that apply to the practice in an inpatient care setting.

2.       Knowledge of analytical and grammatical skills necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

3.       Skilled in maintaining records and preparing reports.

4.       Ability to (or possess the skill level to gain ability to) define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; also apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

5.       Familiarity with spreadsheet and overall computer skills.

6.       Ability to work with a wide variety of other professionals and staff engaged in the delivery of health care services.

7.       Ability to gain the confidence and respect of the public to be served.

8.       Ability to work well independently including without administrative support when required.

9.       Organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills are essential.

10.    Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

11.    Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality.
