POSITION SUMMARY

Medical Technicians perform duties in a physician’s office or lab. On the job, you’ll collect and analyze body fluids, tissue and other substances to determine normal or abnormal findings. You’ll operate sophisticated equipment and instruments to identify the results.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

1.        Venipuncture procedures using (vacutainer, syringe, butterfly, heel stick and finger stick).

2.         Receive specimens

3.        Set up Cultures; perform gram stain and AFB stain.

4.        Operation, daily maintenance, QC, and all test related to the Urine Department.

5.        Reference Lab sends out procedures

6.        Operation, maintenance, QC, and all test related to the Serology Department

7.        Follows the Laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

8.        Initiates ordering of supplies in a timely manner

9.        Perform blood Donors collection as needed

10.     Perform all testing and procedure related to the Immunology department

11.     Perform rapid HIV testing

12.     Oversight of POC testing

13.     VA phlebotomy coverage

14.     Perform other related duties

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.       High school diploma or its equivalent

2.       Courses in Chemistry and Biology or completion of an accredited training program for Medical assistants.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

1.       Knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations that apply to the practice of in an inpatient care setting.

2.       Knowledge of hospital/departmental policies and procedures, emergency protocols, Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid services and all other local and federal regulatory standards

3.       Knowledge of analytical and grammatical skills necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

4.       Skilled in maintaining records and preparing reports.

5.       Familiarity with spreadsheet and overall computer skills.

6.       Ability to work with a wide variety of other professionals and staff engaged in the delivery of health care services.

7.       Ability to gain the confidence and respect of the public to be served.

8.       Ability to work well independently including without administrative support when required.

9.       Organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills are essential.

10.    Ability to work in a highly visible position undergoing significant changes with multiple constituents, each with demands exceeding resources.

11.    Ability to work independently, as part of a team and be available.

12.    Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality.
