BARGAINING UNIT: SEAFARERS INTERNATIONAL UNION (ALLIED HEALTH)

SALARY RANGE: $40,000 – $75,000

POSITION SUMMARY

This individual performs delegated patient care tasks based upon the judgment in accordance with plan of care.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

1.       Responsible for transporting patients to and from the ESRD unit when necessary.

2.       Responsible for recording patients’ pre and post dialysis weight, blood pressure, pulse temperature.

3.       Responsible for initiative and terminating the dialysis procedure.

4.       Responsible for monitoring the patients’ vital signs during the dialysis treatment.

5.       Continuously observe the patients’ condition and the proper functioning of the dialysis machine and reports his/her observations to the Hemodialysis Staff Nurse.

6.       Assists in providing diversional therapy for patients during treatment.

7.       Disposes of non-reusable coil and tubing in the proper manner.

8.       Responsible for cleanliness of machine and dialysate delivery tank according to established standard procedures.

9.       Trouble shoots dialysis machines and do minor repairs and preventative maintenance as needed.

10.    Accompanies patients to other departments and to exist after treatment.

11.    Assist with the care of the ESRD patients when necessary.

12.    Performs other duties as directed.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.       High school or equivalent plus one-year experience.

2.       Specialized training in an accredited Hemodialysis program and experience with provided familiarity with medical care, laboratory procedures and/or medical equipment.

3.       Certification from Accredited Hemodialysis Program, preferred.

4.       Current CPR/BLS certificate.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

1.       Knowledge of the theories and practices of professional nursing in the ESRD unit.

2.       Knowledge of specifics and the requirements involved in promoting a safe environment and therapeutic milieu within the unit.

3.       Ability to operate dialysis machinery.

4.       Ability to trouble shoot machines and do minor repairs and preventative maintenance as needed.

5.       Ability to maintain dialyzer records, and prepare dialysis water treatment system for use according to established procedure.

6.       Ability to prepare dialysis delivery systems for use according to established procedure.

7.       Ability to measure human vital signs using the necessary instruments.

8.       Knowledge of ESRD standards and compliance.

9.       Knowledge of universal precautions to avoid or reduce personal exposure to blood and body fluids; understands and follows basic written safety standards related to environmental, physical, mechanical, electrical, chemical and biological standards.

10.    Ability to follow oral and written directions.

11.    Ability to relate with tact and understand to deal with parents, doctors, staff and all other persons contacted during the course of work.

12.    Ability to employ sound judgment in the planning and execution of assigned duties.

13.    Knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations that apply to the practice of in an inpatient care setting.

14.    Knowledge of hospital/departmental policies and procedures, emergency protocols, Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid services and all other local and federal regulatory standards

15.    Ability to make presentations before management, public groups, and staff.

16.    Knowledge of analytical and grammatical skills necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.

17.    Familiarity with spreadsheet and overall computer skills.

18.    Ability to work with a wide variety of other professionals and staff engaged in the delivery of health care services.

19.    Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality.

20.    Ability to gain the confidence and respect of the public to be served.

21.    Ability to work well independently including without administrative support when required.

22.    Organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills are essential.

23.    Ability to work in a highly visible position undergoing significant changes with multiple constituents, each with demands exceeding resources.

24.    Ability to work independently, as part of a team and be available.

25.    Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality.

27.    Perform other duties as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment with a smoke-free policy. Employee will work in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in hand hygiene practices, Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated; is subject to interruptions and noise daily.

Possess near vision acuity for accurate reading of equipment and recording on patient charts. Must be physically able to lift, support, and move patients.
