Meet Dr. Michele Berkeley, an OB/GYN at #JFL and our 2024 Physician of the Year! Dr. Berkeley, born in Toronto, Canada, moved to St. Thomas for one year and then to St. Croix, where she attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. At the age of nine, she began her tennis career. She went through rigorous training, which refined her skills, eventually ranking her number one in the Virgin Islands in junior tennis. In 1980, she graduated from St. Dunstan’s where she developed an interest in the sciences. To further her education and pursue her quest to become a doctor, she moved to the District of Columbia and completed her undergraduate studies at Howard University.
She then attended Georgetown University School of Medicine. During her studies at Georgetown, she performed extensive research on “Cocaine and its effects on pregnancy outcomes,” for which she received awards. During her clinical years in medical school, she developed an interest in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
She practiced in the District of Columbia at several medical centers and was The Medical Director of the Physicians group practice at the Washington Hospital Center. Dr Berkeley also served as a physician on the White House Medical Unit under the Obama administration. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, is a diplomat of the Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
She started her private practice in St. Croix in 2001 presently located in the Barron Spot Mall. She has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and the diagnosis and management of Infertility. Dr. Berkeley strongly believes in forming a strong patient-physician relationship and reinforces to her patients that self-awareness, along with patient education and open communication is the key to staying healthy.
Dr. Berkeley has served at JFL for 24 years. She has proudly accepted this award as it demonstrates that her efforts to provide state of the art health care to our community is much appreciated.
