St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands – March 12, 2025 – The Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center (JFL) is pleased to announce its designation as a National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site for the forthcoming Community Outpatient Clinic. This designation underscores JFL’s ongoing commitment to enhancing access to quality healthcare services.
The NHSC, under the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), supports healthcare providers serving medically underserved areas. By becoming an NHSC-approved site, JFL can recruit and retain physicians and nurses through programs that offer loan repayment and scholarships. This significant achievement reinforces our mission to improve access to care and enhance the well-being of the St. Croix community.
“The approval of JFL as an NHSC site is a tremendous step forward in addressing healthcare access challenges in our community,” said Darlene Baptiste, Chief Executive Officer of JFL. “This designation allows us to attract and retain healthcare professionals who share our commitment to providing quality care to underserved populations. We are excited about the opportunities this brings and look forward to strengthening our healthcare workforce.”
With this approval, JFL will take the necessary steps to ensure compliance with NHSC standards and uphold its commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare. Further details about the program can be found on the NHSC website.
JFL extends gratitude to the NHSC for this opportunity and to the Interim Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mavis Matthew, Executive Physician Recruiter, Tisha Lockhart, and the entire medical staff office for the work done to make this possible. We look forward to a successful partnership that will strengthen healthcare services for the people of St. Croix.
