July 8, 2025 – St. Croix, USVI. Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center (JFL) acknowledges and thanks the members of our community who gathered outside our facility to voice their concerns regarding the state of JFL. Your advocacy is both heard and appreciated.
Community engagement is essential to meaningful progress, and we are grateful for those activists who continue to hold us accountable and seek constructive solutions. Your presence and passion remind us that the health of this hospital is deeply tied to the strength and voice of the people we serve.
During the protest, Chief Executive Officer Darlene Baptiste addressed the crowd directly, recognizing the validity of their concerns and affirming her unwavering commitment to transparency, action, and collaboration.

In a statement provided for this release, CEO Baptiste shared, “Every concern raised is important, and every challenge presented is one I take seriously. We cannot, and will not, move forward alone. We need the community’s trust, support, and partnership to rebuild and rise together.”
In the spirit of continued dialogue, CEO Baptiste will meet with protest leaders Dr. Cleopatra Peters and Ms. Karen Dickenson this Friday at 12:00 PM to further discuss and work together toward community-driven solutions.
JFL remains steadfast in its mission to provide safe, quality healthcare. While these challenges are complex and ongoing, we are committed to addressing them head-on with transparency, commitment, and above all, unity. We call on the community to remain engaged and to continue working with us.
We thank you for your voice, your vigilance, and your belief in a stronger, healthier future for the people of St. Croix.
