St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (July 9, 2026) — The Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center joins the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands on Friday, July 10, in honoring the life, leadership, and legacy of Governor Juan Francisco Luis on what would have been his birthday.
A respected public servant and visionary leader, Governor Luis dedicated his career to improving the quality of life for the people of the Virgin Islands. His commitment to public service, community development, and the well-being of Virgin Islanders continues to inspire generations. It is in recognition of that legacy that St. Croix’s principal acute care hospital proudly bears his name.
“Governor Juan F. Luis believed in serving the people of the Virgin Islands with integrity, compassion, and purpose,” said Darlene Baptiste, Chief Executive Officer of the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center. “As we honor his legacy today, we also recognize the dedicated physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, support staff, and volunteers who carry that spirit of service forward every day through their commitment to caring for our community.”
In recognition of Governor Luis’s birthday, the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center community will pause on Friday, July 10, for a moment of reflection to honor his life, leadership, and lasting contributions to the U.S. Virgin Islands. The observance will also include the presentation of the Leader of the Year – Living the Legacy Award, recognizing a team leader whose dedication, compassion, integrity, and commitment to service embody the values Governor Luis exemplified throughout his life.
